About the Driver

Hello and welcome to my job hunting road trip. Sit down, buckle up, remember to stay in your seats while the vehicle is moving - permenecer sentados, por favor, if that's more your speed - and above all, enjoy the ride. That's what I'm trying to do, and it's working out okay so far.

If you'd like to get to know your driver, this is the place. Let's have a few questions from the passengers.

Who are you?

My name is Katherine - Katie, if you will - and I'm a twentysomething-year-old college grad living in the northern Los Angeles area. I've been out of work for about a month as of November 2nd, 2010, and I've spent that entire time looking for a job.

What kind of job? And why not a "career?"

Honestly, I'm looking to pay the bills. I've applied everywhere, from food service to sales to receptionist positions, which is actually what I'm looking for. As for why I'm looking for a job and not a career...well, I was on a career path for about nine months. Unfortunately, it wound up heading away from where I needed to go, so I pulled off the side of the road and turned around. Right now, I'm exploring side roads while I decide what freeway I want to merge back onto.

What's the dream job, then?

I want to work for the video game industry. I have no preference as to which one - all I know is that I want to work with what I love, and I love that industry.

What are you doing in the meantime?

Searching for jobs whose qualifications I fit, going to interviews, and I've managed to pick up a few temp jobs on the side. I'm still puttering around, though I haven't hit freeway speeds quite yet.

You really like your driving metaphors, don't you.

Yes. Yes, I do. Blame the blog name.

Where did that name come from, anyway?

It's a quote from the the fantastic author Sir Terry Pratchett.

How often do you plan to update?

As often as I have something interesting to say. I'm about a month behind as it is, so updates will be pretty frequent to start.

If there's anything I've missed, feel free to ask away.
